Associate Pastor
A Brief Overview
First Baptist Church of Kenova is seeking an associate pastor who desires to invest his life in shepherding people, strengthening worship, and developing leaders for gospel ministry. Our church is experiencing healthy growth and is committed to faithful biblical preaching, meaningful discipleship, and Christ-centered worship.
Our Church
First Baptist Church of Kenova is a growing congregation located in the Tri-State region where West Virginia, Kentucky, and Ohio meet.
Weekly attendance: ~440
Annual budget: ~$1.1 million
Our church is committed to:
• faithful exposition of Scripture
• meaningful congregational worship
• intentional discipleship and leadership development
• raising up leaders within the church
Our leadership structure includes a Lead Pastor and a Council of Shepherds who together provide spiritual oversight and pastoral care for the church.
Livestreams of our worship gatherings are available here.
Why This Role Matters
As our church has grown, we believe the time is right to strengthen our pastoral leadership.
This role will help ensure that our congregation remains well cared for while strengthening key ministries of the church.
In the near term, the Associate Pastor will provide pastoral leadership and oversight for the church’s worship ministry while helping develop leaders in that area.
At the same time, he will share in the broader responsibilities of pastoral leadership including preaching, teaching, discipleship, and shepherding care.
The Opportunity
The Associate Pastor will join the Lead Pastor and fellow shepherds in helping guide the spiritual life of the church.
Key aspects of the role include:
• providing pastoral leadership to the worship ministry
• shepherding worship leaders and volunteers
• serving as part of the church’s preaching team
• helping strengthen discipleship within the congregation
• identifying and developing future ministry leaders
Over time, the role may expand to include additional leadership responsibilities depending on the needs of the church and the development of ministry leaders.
Our Worship Philosophy
We believe worship is fundamentally about giving God the glory He deserves. When the church gathers, our goal is not simply to create an experience but to encounter God and respond to His Word.
Our services are intentionally shaped by Scripture and include the Word read, prayed, sung, preached, and seen through the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Our preaching is primarily expository, and our singing reflects both historic hymns and biblically rich modern songs.
Our desire is that worship at First Baptist Church would be Christ-centered, Word-driven, congregational, and shaped by Scripture.
Our worship ministry is overseen by the council of shepherds with a pastoral assistant currently providing direct leadership of the worship team and congregational singing. The pastoral assistant will remain an active part of worship team leadership to support the associate pastor.
The Pastor We Are Seeking
The man who will thrive in this role will be a pastor who:
• loves the local church and its people
• desires to shepherd and disciple others
• has experience serving in or leading worship ministry
• can teach and communicate Scripture clearly
• enjoys investing in leaders and developing others for ministry
• works well within a collaborative pastoral team
Above all, we are seeking a pastor who meets the biblical qualifications for elders and demonstrates a deep love for Christ and His church.
The Community
Kenova sits at the intersection of West Virginia, Kentucky, and Ohio in the Tri-State region.
The area offers:
• a cost of living well below the national average
• strong family communities
• access to Marshall University in nearby Huntington
