Room to Teach

Beginning Sunday, September 13, our first worship service moves from 9:00am to 8:30am.
Here’s the reason: We want to give Sunday school a real hour.

Under the current schedule, the 9:00 service lets out just about the time Sunday school is supposed to start. So classes begin late. Teachers race the clock. More than one good conversation has been cut off in the middle because the room had to clear for 11:15. Anyone who has taught a class knows exactly what that does to it. You skip the discussion. You shorten the prayer time. You get through the material and hope somebody caught it.

Thirty minutes fixes that.

Beginning September 13:

8:30am Worship
10:00am to 11:00am Sunday School
11:15am Worship

The 11:15 service does not change. What changes is that the hour in between belongs to the classes, start to finish, with a few minutes on either side to get where you are going.
We are doing this because the teaching hour is not filler between services. It is one of the few places in the week where a believer sits down with an open Bible and other believers and is actually taught. Where a question gets asked out loud and answered.

Where somebody notices you were not there last Sunday and asks about it on Tuesday.
This church is here to worship, to disciple, and to send, and we fear we have been shortchanging the middle one by handing our teachers forty-five minutes and calling it an hour.

Nursery and children’s classes run at both worship hours and during the Sunday school hour. If your class has been meeting in a room that is hard to get to in a hurry, talk to us; we have some flexibility now that we did not have before.
