Washington D.C. Mission Trip

Our Garage Student Ministries is just a few days away from our Washington, D.C. mission trip, and our students are ready! We have endured a number of fundraisers, paperwork, vaccine shots, planning and prayer in preparation before our departure.  Here is how you can be praying for us…

We are partnering with a missions organization, YouthWorks, from Sunday through Thursday to send out teams to different locations throughout the city.  We will be serving in different capacities such as at a food shelf, clothing distribution center, soup kitchen, children’s program and an elderly care facility.

Each evening we will be traveling across the city engaging in different activities.  These activities include site seeing, cultural learning experiences, worshiping at a church with several other student ministries and having a large community outreach.

On our final day, Friday, we will leave the YouthWorks site and conduct our own outreach.  We will be hosting a cookout/carnival in a housing project area called Lincoln Heights in northeast Washington, DC.  Lincoln Heights is in the most under resourced area of DC.  Before arriving at FBCK, I was on staff at McLean Bible Church and worked in this drug and crime filled area running a ministry we called Daybreak.  My sister Sarah also served on staff.  Our students will be partnering up with this Christian organization to serve the children, families, and individuals in the community.

I was recently told that DayBreak will soon be closing its doors due to the lack of funding.  Our outreach may be the last activity DayBreak will hold in this area. Please be in special prayer as we share the Gospel in this community.

I am requesting specific prayer for our mission team in the following areas:

  • Safe travels
  • Our vans have no mechanical problems or flat tires
  • Safety in the neighborhoods we will be serving
  • A humbling experience for our students and leaders
  • Good attitudes and servant hearts
  • Gospel-centered conversations and to see many put their faith in Jesus
  • Team unity
  • Closer relationships with the Lord
