Leadership

Our congregation is led by our Council of Shepherds: Pastors Steve Willis and Adam Goodwin, Lay Pastors Dave Akers, Joe Dorsey, Rick Gue, Bruce Mosser, and Jerry Saulton as well as our ministerial staff.

Our church meets on three campuses: the main campus in Kenova, and our sister congregations which are Huntington Community Church (HCC), First Baptist Church of Ashland, KY. We also have other ministry staff members who help serve the needs of our congregation in various ministry areas.  Each staff member is listed below according to the year they began working with FBCK.

  • Steve Willis

    Lead Pastor

Since first visiting FBC in 1998, Pastor Steve has had many roles within our congregation. He originally served as Associate for Youth Ministries but now serves as a pastor for the entire congregation. His primary ministries are teaching during Sunday morning services, overall church leadership, and outreach to the Tri-State area.

God has blessed Steve to share God’s love on 5 continents and over 40 countries.  He has degrees from West Virginia University, Dallas Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. in Anthropology and Human Development from Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY.  He is married to Deanna, his wife of over 28 years, and they have three children (Titus, Johnna, and Lucas).  Deanna is a reading specialist and enjoys leading a tutoring practice for children with reading difficulties.

Steve enjoys sports, the outdoors, and traveling for the purpose of mission work and experiencing God’s creation. (He’s still hoping for a single-digit golf handicap, but it’s looking more and more like that will have to wait until after the rapture!)

  • Andy Honeycutt

    Master of Music and Administration

Andy grew up in Maryland near Baltimore. Throughout his life, God has made music a key part of how he looks at the world. Andy sang in choirs, directed choirs, and accompanied choirs for many years. He taught elementary music in public schools until God called him to minister full-time in His Church. Andy is passionate about helping others worship the Lord Jesus Christ through music.

Andy’s wife, Sharon, enjoys homeschooling their children and cooking fabulous meals. Other than making music, Andy likes to bike ride, watch Star Trek (old or new), and read a lot.

“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!” (Psalm 150) You will hear Andy inviting folks to choir again and again and again! That’s because being part of the choir helps you worship and serves the church by helping them worship, too. And you get to have fun while doing it!

  • Adam Goodwin

Teaching Pastor, Huntington Community Church campus

As a child, Adam’s family didn’t go to church. It was not until he was 20 years old, that God made Himself known to Adam. That same year, he surrendered his life to Him.

While studying at Marshall University and attending FBC Kenova, Adam met his future wife, Olivia. After completing an undergraduate degree, he moved to Wake Forest, NC to attend Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary where he earned a Masters of Divinity and a doctorate in counseling.  After graduating in 2005, Adam and Olivia got married and moved backed to WV. Upon returning to Huntington in 2008, their family attended FBC Kenova.  After a dozen years of marriage, Adam and Olivia have been blessed with six children!

When Adam returned to FBCK in 2008, the church was in the process of planting a church in Huntington. Adam and Olivia committed one year as lay volunteers to help get the church plant started. Five years later, Adam came on staff with HCC and he is excited to see how God will use their church family to reach the ends of the earth with the gospel of Christ.

His passion in ministry is to exalt Christ by leading others to become committed followers of Christ who themselves lead others to be committed followers of Christ.
